Rashford failed to deliver as a no.9 against Liverpool on Sunday.
Solskjaer wanted to use the striker in the middle because of his pace.
Speaking to MUTV after the Anfield stalemate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I wanted Marcus Rashford up top. Because of his pace. We just missed a few moments in both the first half and the second half.
“We needed to play that ball a little bit quicker or with a bit more quality. It was there that we could hurt them a bit because we knew about their problems at centre-back.
“It doesn’t really matter where we are now, it matters where we are in May. We move on, carry on. We feel that we’ve developed and that is a good feeling with being disappointed to only get one point away.”
Rashford was largely anonymous against Liverpool on Sunday with Manchester United’s best chances of the game falling to Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
The Englishman did, however, manage to be caught offside a whopping 5 times at Anfield. The last Man United player to do that in a Premier League game was Robin van Persie back in 2013.
