Manchester United remain confident that Donny van de Beek will be a success at Old Trafford, according to Edwin van der Sar.
United pulled off a coup in the summer to sign the highly rated Van de Beek from under the nose of Real Madrid for the relatively low price of £35.1million.
The Dutchman has had an underwhelming start to life in Manchester, though, with just two starts in the Premier League and eight further cameos as a substitute so far.
Van de Beek has not featured at all in United’s last five league matches but Van der Sar, who had a hand in the 23-year-old’s transfer from Ajax as the CEO of the Amsterdam club, has revealed that United are still backing him to succeed.
United face Fulham away from home on Wednesday night.
Exclusive: Mengi wanted on loan
Manchester United have received interest from clubs interested in taking Dylan Levitt and Teden Mengi on loan until the end of the season
MEN Sport understands there has been significant interest in both Levitt and Mengi from Championship and League One clubs — though both could be kept at United, as club staff weigh up the youngsters’ futures.
United recalled Welsh midfielder Levitt from his loan move at Charlton Atheltic this month, as they were concerned the 20-year-old wasn’t getting enough game time. Levitt made just three league appearances for the League One side.
Elanga shines for U23 side in defeat to Leicester
Anthony Elanga was a shining light for Manchester United U23 defeat during their 4-2 defeat against Leicester U23 following an error-strewn performance from Matej Kovar.
United’s most recent signing Amad Diallo was not named in the squad in what would have been his debut since joining from Atalanta earlier this month.
Kovar, who returned to the United side after being recalled from his loan spell at Swindon Town, misplaced a clearance inside one minute and Callum Wright was on hand to give the hosts an early lead.
