The Manchester United star has been told to pack his bags after finding it difficult to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team.
Since his arrival from Ajax in the summer, Donny van de Beek has not been very instrumental in Manchester United’s recent victories. The Dutchman has hardly been provided any game time having featured for just 760 minutes this season so far and has scored just a single goal.
Considering that Van de Beek was supposed to be the marquee signing of the summer after their failed attempt to bring Jordan Sancho to Old Trafford, the former Ajax star has not managed to produce anything of note till now. But it does take time for players to adjust and flourish. Just have a look at Fred.
Ajax legend Sjaak Swart, was one of the first people to come out with some harsh comments regarding Van de Beek’s situation. He believes that the Dutchman is wasting his time warming the bench for United, as reported by the Mirror:
“A substitute, I don’t like it at all. I couldn’t do it myself, substituting in with four minutes left to play. Then you’d better let me sit down.”
Even De Telegraaf (via Sports Witness) suggest that if he does not feature in the match against Manchester City, then the 23-year-old should consider packing his bags in search of minutes on the pitch at some other club.
Despite such speculations from various sources, it does not seem like the Dutchman is close to leaving at the moment. While there have been rumours here and there, nothing concrete has come out till now, which would lead you to believe that he is frustrated with life at Old Trafford and wants to leave.
Although it is clear that Solskjaer has been reluctant to tweak with a team that has been doing so well recently, the Norwegian may have plans for Van de Beek in the future with Paul Pogba likely to leave the club next summer. Thus, it is a matter of having patience on the part of the Dutch midfielder and his time to shine will eventually come.
