Man United decide to sell midfield star as they accept he will not renew his contract

A report by the Mirror states that Manchester United have accepted that Paul Pogba will not renew his contract and depart in the summer.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined United in 2016 and United now know that they have to sell him in the summer to recoup the £89m transfer fee they paid for him to Juventus.

The news follows after his agent, Mino Raiola, stated that Pogba’s time at United was over. That announcement came on the eve of their do-or-die Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

While the Red Devils lost the game, Pogba was impressive. He has also stepped up his performances in the last month and has won over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s praise.

But, there is an acceptance at the club now that the World Cup winner will not renew his contract at Old Trafford. United, like they have made a habit of doing recently, extended Pogba’s contract by one year back in October.

This is due to a clause in the player’s contract that permitted the club to extend it by twelve months. This means that the former Juventus midfielder is currently on a deal that expires in 2022.

However, the club would know that if Pogba stays next season and doesn’t renew his contract, a sticky situation might arise for the club in January 2022.

The midfielder is currently attracting interest from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, his former club Juventus, and La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Pogba is one of the most influential players at United right now. Alongside Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, Pogba has been one of the main reasons the club is 2nd in the Premier League table. However, as things stand, he might be on the move once this season wraps up.
