Maybe Villa should take a look at their own backyard before crying about VAR.
It’s one thing for Aston Villa fans to call Manchester United cheaters and whatnot on social media but it’s another thing entirely for their players to join in and cry about the 2-1 loss.
Goalkeeper Emi Martinez retweeted a video of Paul Pogba’s penalty and he wrote: “Highlight of the game”. Oh, and he accompanied the message with an angry emoji.
Defender Douglas Luiz went one step further with a full-blown rant on Twitter as he wrote: “I see this video, I can’t believe it was a penalty. I always support fairer football, with fewer mistakes, but then I stop and see these types of moves. If we have VAR to help, LET’S start using it CORRECTLY, these mistakes can define the future of clubs!”
We’re glad Luiz brings that up. What would the punishment be for Tyrone Mings then, who shoved his elbow into Pogba’s face, leaving him bloodied during the game? There was no intervention from VAR there.
What of Jack Grealish then, who goes down at the drop of a hat? And we all know how much a certain Mohamed Salah loves dropping himself like he’s hot (not).
Maybe it’s the delusion caused by fighting relegation one season and then being among the top five clubs (for a few seconds, hardly) the next. Clearly, Villa need to take a look at their own backyard before crying about us.
