N-Power Stipends: Minister Fails To Keep To Promise As New Year Starts

Despite the promise by Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, to pay all outstanding stipends of exited N-Power beneficiaries before the end of 2020, the Nigerian youths have yet to get settled, Afriupdate reports.

It would be recalled that Farouq had in a tweet on her verified Twitter handle in October 2020 assured former N-Power beneficiaries with “legitimate claims” that they’d be settled their arrears before the start of 2021.

However that promise – like many pledges by Farouq and numerous Nigerian politicians – remains empty, Afriupdate findings through communication with several Batch A and B beneficiaries revealed.

“All legitimate claims and those on verified list will be paid before the end of the year,” Farouq had stated in October 2020.

Gunmen raided and ransacked a group of villages there, local sources said, in one of the worst attacks this year blamed on heavily armed criminal gangs. Afriupdate learnt that the Federal Government is owing 14,200 exited beneficiaries of the scheme five-month pay (March to July, 2020). They earn N30, 000 per month.

The N-Power is a scheme set up by President Muhammadu Buhari since 8 June 2016, to address the issues of youth unemployment and help increase social development.

The scheme was created as a component of National Social Investment Program (NSIP), to provide a structure for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development and to ensure that each participant will learn and practice most of what is necessary to find or create work, information by Nigerian authorities said.
