Messi: ‘The burofax? I had been telling Bartomeu I wanted to go but he didn’t listen’

Messi says that the burofax was a way of making his intention to leave official.
Leo knew that the current season would be a transitional one while he always wants to win titles.
The Argentine reveals that Bartomeu leaked stuff to the press to make him look like the bad guy.
Messi is sure he would’ve won the court case against Barca but he didn’t want to leave that way.
“The burofax? Yes, it was a way of making it official. I had been saying for six months to the president that I wanted to go but he didn’t listen. That was my way to say it seriously, for everyone to know,” Leo Messi has told La Sexta.

“A moment came when I thought I had completed the cycle, I needed a change, my head needed to get away from all the issues at the club. I knew this year would be a transition, new people, youngsters. I always wanted to keep battling to win La Liga and the Champions League.
“The president at the time did not want me to leave, leaked stuff to press to make me look like the bad guy. But I was doing what I felt in that moment.

“I knew it would not be easy to leave the club of my life, would not be easy anywhere else, new city, new climate. My family didn’t want to leave. But I felt it was best at that moment for everyone — for me, the club, the cycle was over.

“I know that if we went to court in August, we would’ve won. But I didn’t want to leave like this.”
