Eastern Security Network: Nnamdi Kanu’s Counsel Speaks On Legality Of Outfit

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says the newly-launched Eastern Security Network (ESN) is legal, ‘going by Section 59 of Penal Code’.

Ejimakor via his known Twitter handle on Wednesday adopted this stance about the security outfit.

It would be recalled that Kanu, the leader of the proscribed IPOB had declared that the failure of Southeast governors to secure the lives and property of Igbo people led to the formation of the ESN.

In a statement he issued on Tuesday, Kanu said the Southeast and South-South regions have resolved to defend their territories from terrorism and extra-judicial killings.

Kanu, who accused the governors of sleeping while external forces kill their people in ‘Biafra territory’, warned that the people of the regions would not allow what happened at Oyigbo (also called Obigbo) in Rivers State to repeat itself.

Pictures and videos have been in circulation on social media depicting a huge number of young men in training camps at undisclosed locations and carrying arms, but Afriupdate News cannot independently verify the genuineness of these videos and images – as at the time of publishing this report.

Reacting to the formation of the ESN on Sunday, apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said it was in support of whatever could be done by any group to secure the people, as long as such followed due process.

National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chuks Ibegbu, stated that nowhere in the country was safe, stressing that Nigerians must rise to protect themselves in accordance with the law.

Alluding to the recent kidnap of pupils in Katsina State, he said: “Whatever could be done to safeguard our people is supported. Whatever any group can do to secure the area is welcome, as long as they do it with due regard to the laws of the land.”
