Joan Gaspart believes it was unfair from the Spanish FA to fine the Catalan club for Messi’s emotional tribute to Maradona.
He says he’d rather pays this sum rather than allowing Barca to do so.
“I don’t rule out sending 600 euros to the Spanish FA to pay the fine they gave Leo for showing the shirt,” Barcelona’s former president Joan Gaspart told Youtube channel El 10 del Barca TV.
“I’ll explain why, because of the tremendous love I had for Maradona and for the love I have for Messi. It’s not fair. I’d rather pay them than Barca pay them.”
After scoring Barca’s 4th against Osasuna on Sunday, Messi took off his shirt and revealed Diego Maradona’s Newell’s jersey.
FIFA rules prohibit players from demonstrating anything as part of a goal celebration, be it another shirt or a handwritten message. So, Messi was booked and fined for €600.
