Barcelona scout Atletico Madrid defender as a short-term solution.

Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona has been hit with multiple problems since the Dutchman arrived at the Nou Camp. Financial problems at the club was a main issue for the former Southampton manager and to add to that he has now been hit with multiple injury problems.

With Ansu Fati and Gerard Pique out for over four months, the hands of the Dutchman are currently tied. The Blaugrana are looking for immediate solutions as they plan to bring in centre-backs in the January transfer window of 2021 which opens in one month.

Manchester City’s Eric Garcia has been a major target for Barcelona. However, according to multiple reports now the Blaugrana are looking at Atletico Madrid centre-back Felipe Augusto.

The Brazilian had joined Diego Simeone last year from Porto. The defender has been crucial for the La Liga side but has not been the main choice for the Argentine coach for a long time.

Simeone has been playing Augusto regularly since the resumption of football after the coronavirus lockdown situation. Still, the Argentine has valuable options like Jose Maria Gimenez, Stefan Savic and Mario Hermoso.

The Catalans are aware of the fact that the 31-year-old centre-back is not one of Simeone’s main choices. Hence, the La Liga giants plan to bring in the Brazilian in January as a potential back option with Gerard Pique out on the sidelines.

City’s Garcia is one of their main targets as the Blaugrana plan to bring in the former La Masia student back to the Nou Camp but they are reportedly looking for more options in Augusto in order to bring in depth and a proper system for the rest of their season.

At 31 years of age, Felipe would be a fantastic option for the Blaugrana as he is experienced in Europe and in the La Liga. However, City youngster Eric Garcia remains their main target as the 19-year-old did not renew his stay at the City of Manchester Stadium.
