Koeman believes La Liga officials should take into account the reasons behind Leo’s actions.
He reminds that the captain took off his shirt to honour Diego Maradona’s memory.
“We know that there is a rule on the yellow card. But we also know that it was his dedication to Maradona when he took off his shirt,” Ronald Koeman said, as quoted by Goal, referring to Leo Messi’s tribute to Diego which saw him booked.

“It’s not my decision, but for me, I would withdraw it [the yellow card],” the coach concluded.

After scoring Barca’s 4th against Osasuna on Sunday, Messi took off his shirt and revealed Diego Maradona’s Newell’s jersey.

FIFA rules prohibit players from demonstrating anything as part of a goal celebration, be it another shirt or a handwritten message. So, Messi was booked and fined for €3,000.

By the way, it was Messi’s third yellow card in La Liga this season. Another one would see him suspended.
